The Tech Lightning is a machine pistol designed by the Gudersnipe Foundation, and manufactured by Lands and Grooves. The weapon is so named because "Like lightning, the bullets never strike the same place twice.". It was created to act as an ultra-portable sub-machine gun and is considered woefully inaccurate, but excels when used for it's primary function: turning the air in front of it into bullets.

Design

Behind the Lance, the Lightning is one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced weapons in the Foundation's arsenal. It uses .22 caliber ammunition and can be chambered to fire case-less ammunition. The low stopping-power is mitigated by high rate of fire and enormous magazine-size. Standard clips hold 72 bullets while extended clips can carry up to 96. On full-auto it can empty a standard magazine in about four seconds.

Most of the weapon's inaccuracy comes from it's low weight. On single-shot it is reasonably accurate, but is effectively impossible to control even on burst-fire mode.

Variants

The weapon comes in two main variants: A "Crimson Blade Elite" and a "Partisan Special", with the Special being sold for export or license-built.

  • Elite - uses ceramic polymers for the barrel(similar to the Lance) and carbon fiber for most of the body. This weapon is extremely light, with most of the weight coming from the bullets in the 64-round clip.
  • Partisan Special - all metal design firing standard .22-caliber rounds; widely available, but limited to only 32-round magazines.

A further variant with a 20-round, nine-millimeter caliber, sees use in both the regular corpse and special forces, however the lower magazine size means it is mostly used on semi-auto and considered inferior to most sub machine guns.

Usage

The weapon was designed with three purposes: special forces; self-defense for non-frontline soldiers; and as a light, concealable sub-machine gun for partisan use. Some variants even allowed it to be belt-fed.

In the special forces role(specifically under the Crimson Blade Elites the weapon is equal parts loved and loathed. It is considered excellent for delivering suppressing fire and even decent as a close-quarters combat and urban warfare. However, the requirement for specialized ammunition that is effectively useless in every other role make it not well-liked, especially by the logistics teams responsible for supplying the primary users.

As a partisan weapon it has an equally mixed reputation, with the nature of the conflict and the society using it being the primary factor. In regions where sport shooting is popular and the ammunition plentiful, it does better.

The general consensus seems to be: when use for what it's designed for, it's great. When used as a gun, its terrible.
