The Four Kings of the Last Dynasty are a set of diefic beings worshiped throughout the Multi-Verse by different names and in a variety of forms. It is said that during the Mythical Age they walked the earth and carried with them great power. They are found in the creation stories of a great many cultures. Chief amongst their modern worshippers are the Cardinal Clerics.

Kings

  • Sabatoth
  • Ennead
  • Makbeth
  • Mendalla

Each king is known by many names and is said to have many aspects. Each is also aligned with a cardinal direction.

  • Sabatoth: (Element: Earth; Direction: West) Aspects: Life, death, Light. Also called the One King or the King of Kings, he is always at the top of the pantheon. Sabatoth often appears in artwork as a great cat; modern theologies use a lion but the actual species from ancient times is unknown. Equally often, Sabatoth is also depicted as a man, the only King given that honor. In many respects, he is the only "god", and all others are merely aspects, or parts, of him.
  • Makbeth: (Element: Fire; Direction: South) Aspects: Freedom, completion, returning. Makbeth is also often depicted as a ghost or spirit, somtimes even as a shade. Makbeth is called "The Phoenix King" and in myth was said to die and rise again.
  • Ennead: (Element: Wind; Direction: East) Aspects: Protection. Ennead, also known as the Light Hawk, is always depicted as some form of protection. In most accounts it is depicted as a giant bird-like creature, that extends its wings around a target to protect it.
  • Mendalla: (Element: Water; Direction: North) Aspects: Unity, Compromise, Justice. Unlike the others, Mendalla is never given a physical form. In some works Mendalla is depicted as a woman, but only Sabatoth is ever given an explicit gender.

Gods

In orthodox Cardinal theology, only the One King is a god, and the Cardinals are therefore monotheistic. However, among many cultures, a group of deities called the Monster Gods are spoken of, and the name is very frequently applied to the Four Kings. In fact, it is heavily theorized by scholars that there were only four Monster Gods: the Four Kings of the Last Dynasty.

Lore

All four kings feature heavily in The Book of Lore and were said to have walked the earth during the Mythical Age.

It is not known, whether the Lord of Chaos mentioned by the Marcon Alliance were the Four Kings, or four Dark Lords opposed to a King each. Accounts differ.
