The Monster Gods are the universal deities of the Course Books.

Nature and Culture

Very little is said in the Course Books about either; but The Author knows much more.

Rôles

The Monster Gods are accredited with having created most (if not all) of the Known Worlds; represented Light and Good in the Mythical Age; and have been variously worshipped, venerated, remembered, or feared by most civilized species, ever since; but seldom seen. Their exact numbers, names, and attributes are never fully revealed: they are sometimes said to be four in number, to correspond with the four magical 'elements' of Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water; but sometimes implied to exceed that number, by far. The One King is the highest-ranked among them; but he is only one of Four Kings, who seem to rule the realms of the gods. Superior even to these, is White Blaze.
